Everything you need to know about our breeds, cat care, our process, and health — answered.

About The Breed

What breeds of cats do you have?

We have very adorable and loving British Shorthair, British Longhair, beautiful Ragdolls, and hypoallergenic breeds such as Bengals, Devon Rex and Cornish Rex.

Which breed is most suitable for first-time owners or families?

All our breeds suit different owners based on lifestyle. The British Shorthair, British Longhair or Ragdoll suit owners who prefer a calmer companion, while the Bengal, Devon Rex and Cornish Rex suit those seeking an interactive, playful household. We provide comprehensive guidance to help you choose.

Which breed is easiest to maintain?

The Devon Rex, Cornish Rex and Bengal are among the easiest to care for. Their short coats require minimal maintenance and do not need professional grooming such as bathing or trimming.

Are Bengals suitable for first-time owners and homes with children or seniors?

Yes. Despite misconceptions about Bengal wildness, they are domestic cats that are very docile and affectionate. Their fun-loving nature suits families with children and seniors, though supervision is always advised.

When are your kittens sterilised, and why?

They are usually neutered/spayed at around 4 months old, once they weigh 2kg. Sterilisation prevents territorial behaviour, marking and heat cycles, and reduces certain cancer risks.

Cat Care & Maintenance

How much does it cost to maintain a cat?

About $300 to $350 a month, including litter, monthly Revolution application and deworming. This excludes medical fees and grooming. Pet insurance is advised.

What should I feed my cat?

We recommend our homemade chicken recipe — mostly chicken breast with a little heart, liver and feet, minced and steamed for safety and hydration. Dry food and freeze-dried options are also available.

How often should I groom my cat?

Short-fur breeds like Bengals need fortnightly brushing; long-fur breeds need brushing every couple of days. Short-fur breeds do not need showers; long-fur breeds benefit from professional grooming about every 6 months.

How many litter boxes does one cat need?

We recommend 2 litter boxes per cat, so there is always a clean one available.

Where should I keep my cat when travelling?

Genetique offers boarding at the Ryokan Genetique Cat Boarding Hotel (101 Desker Road). Virtual and physical tours are available.

Health

Are your cats tested for FIV/FeLV?

Parents of our kittens test negative for FIV/FeLV. However, we cannot guarantee against FeLV, FIV or FIP, as these can be affected by stress, immunity, diet, cleanliness and environment.

What health checks are conducted?

Each kitten is examined physically by a vet to ensure it is healthy and free of any signs of infection or contagious disease, and is issued a health certificate.
